My POV: The Essential Skincare Routine (Without All the Extra)

Skincare can feel like a full-time job sometimes — serums for this, treatments for that, and don’t even get me started on the 10-step routines you see on TikTok. My POV? It really doesn’t have to be that complicated.

If you’re overwhelmed or just want to know what actually matters, I’ve got you. Let’s break down the basic steps of an effective skincare routine — one that works without all the extras. Because glowing skin isn’t about how many products you use — it’s about using the right ones.
🌞 Morning Skincare Routine (Simple + Effective)
CleanserStart with a gentle cleanser to refresh your skin and remove any oil or residue from the night.
Toner (optional) If your skin likes a little extra prep, a hydrating toner can help — but not essential.
Serum A vitamin C serum in the morning helps brighten and protect your skin from environmental damage.
Moisturizer Lock in hydration with a lightweight moisturizer.
Sunscreen The non-negotiable. SPF 30 or higher, every day, no matter what.
🌙 Nighttime Skincare Routine (Let’s Repair & Recharge)
Cleanser Gotta remove the makeup, sunscreen, and grime of the day.
NOTE: If you want to step it up a notch, I would recommend the ever-popular DOUBLE cleanse. Start with an oil based cleanser and finish with a water based cleanser to ensure you get ALL the things
Treatment/Serum This is where you can target specific skin goals — think retinol, peptides, or hydrating serums.
Moisturizer Nighttime is about recovery, so use something a bit richer if your skin needs it.
(Optional) Eye Cream / Spot Treatment Only if you need it — not a must for everyone.
That’s it. Seriously. You don’t need 12 products to have healthy, happy skin. This is the foundation — the basics that work for most. But depending on your skin concerns, lifestyle, or even your age, you might want to tweak it.
Your 20s skin doesn’t always need the same things as your 40s skin — and that’s totally normal.
Stay tuned for my next My POV post, where I’ll break down how to adjust your skincare routine based on your age bracket (and no, it’s not just about adding more products).
